YS OLD |
My sweetheart Kahlua would like you to meet her new babies. They have been named after different coffees, but with a name like Kahlua are you surprised? At this age their eyes are still closed, and they cannot hear yet either. Not that it matters because most of their day is spent sleeping. They have no problem smelling though, and as soon as mom enters the bin, they know. It doesn't them them long crawl over to her and find a nice warm spot to take a long drink. It will be another 1 to 2 weeks before their eyes will open and they will be able to hear, but in the meantime they are all doing very well creeping around strengthening their muscles to prepare them to walk. |

YS OLD |
At 2 weeks old, the puppies have started to open their eyes. They are still sleeping all day, until mom comes in to give them a meal. When they are awake they try so hard to stand up and walk as it is a mad dash to get to mommy first, but their legs still aren't strong enough to hold them for very long. They revert back to crawling, because nothing is going to keep them from getting to that delicious momma's milk. That's obvious, as they are all growing very nicely, with more than tripling their birth weight. |

YS OLD |
At the 4 week mark, the puppies have achieved several milestones in their growth. They are walking around more now, although they still do stumble and fall over quite frequently. The eyes are fully opened which makes it so much easier to find mom when she comes in their area. They have gotten very verbal. At this age they make a sound which to me sounds like a combination of a bird chirp and cat purring. They have now realized they have other buddies around to play with, and even at this young age, I have to remind them not to play so roughly. As they grow and roughhouse with each other, they will be learning not to play so hard as they teach each other what OUCH means in puppy language. They are having their first tastes of solid food. Not a big fan of it yet, but will slowly get used to it. As they eat more solid food, Kahlua's milk will gradually be decreasing and she will start refusing to let them nurse as frequently. I've opened up their living space and removed their bin as they have been very successful in figuring out how to climb out of it. I placed a potty tray with them so they can start learning about the proper bathroom place to help them understand the outside grassy areas are for potty. |

| Nothing could be cuter than 7 week old Havanese puppies running around the room. They get so excited when I let them out to run around and play and explore. What a site to see. They are so quick that I have to make sure when I walk, that none of them run in front of me and cause me to trip. They have such soft wavy black coats now that it is hard to resist constantly petting them. I added another platform in their ex pen to play on and give them the exercise and experience of walking up and down steps. They have just begun eating totally solid food now. They still would much rather have mom's milk to drink, but Kahlua has the final word on that and most of the time it is NO, to their disappointment. When they are running around loose Kahlua tries to play with them, but before long they start trying to nurse, and that ends the play with her for them, as she will quickly jump up on the couch to escape the puppies sharp teeth and nails. |

| These puppies have come a long way since the day they were born just 9 short weeks ago. They are very active, playful, and sometimes very noisy. But that's a good thing! Well, not so much late at night, but that comes with the territory. As you can see in the pictures below, they are beautiful with dark wavy coats that is filling in so nicely. They weigh between 3 and 4 pounds now. Earlier in the week they had a new adventure of going outside. I let them run around the yard and explore a bit. To their dismay though, they spent the bulk of their time outside, enjoying the fresh air in a covered ex-pen - safe from any outside dangers. Today the puppies had their 1st car ride as we went to see my Vet. Her office is 50 minutes away It was scary for them, and they expressed their discontent from both ends, by the time we arrived. UGH! Sorry puppies this was so upsetting. Sorry Vet Tech for the cleanup detail. But although this was hard for them, they soon recovered, and were very relaxed while being examined by the vet. With all good reports, we left for home to face another long car ride. Sorry again puppies. As they get out for more car rides, they will get used to it and even start enjoying them, as they realize how much fun it is to go out with the family. Before long, it won't be so scary anymore. Soon they will be going into their permanent homes. They will miss being here with their mommy Kahlua, their siblings, me and even my Golden Retrievers. But their sadness will soon turn to happiness, as they get to know and be loved, by their new family. |

| Below are pictures of the puppies from 5 weeks of age till 9 weeks. They have had a very busy life so far, but a very good one, filled with many new experiences. With the thousands of pictures I have taken over the past 9 weeks, I've put together this gallery with just a snippet of photos of the puppies: Because they are so active, some pictures may not be the clearest, but you can get the idea as they: Play: sleep, eat, have some indoor exercise, hang with mom, get PAT tested, vist the Vet, run around outside playing with my other dogs, and lastly get loved loved by visitors. With all these experiences, they have gotten a very good start to prepare them for the next stage in their lives: GOING INTO THEIR PERMANENT HOMES. |
